Florida for Ken's convention

We didn't go on too many vacations other then to Oregon to see my folks.  So when Ken was sent to Orlando for work, we gladly followed along.  It was the kids' first trip to Disney, and my first to Disney World.

a trip to Piedmont hotel to see the ducks that take the elevator to the fountain every day.

 back to Disney World

 Epcot

 Magic Kingdom

day trip to Nassau at Cape Canaveral

 and cocoa beach

We had a great time.  But we didn't become Disney fanatics like so many friends of ours were.  Just seems so expensive!  Give me the beach---which is free!

Oregon

Angie with the lower falls of Multnomah Falls behind her.  Still in the days of film cameras and poor scanners.

Dad reading to the kids while we waited for our plane at the PDX airport.
Wonder what happened to that book?
Those days went by too fast!  Fortunately I have so many wonderful memories of our trips to Oregon to visit family.
 Home

Ken's mom visiting after our Florida trip.
She makes a great Daisy duck
We had to have Petey Dog put to sleep this year.  He had cancer.  He had been with us for over 13 years---since right after Ken and I got married.  Looks like I don't have many pictures of him, but he was quite the little guy.  I had wanted a bigger dog, but when Ken brought him by, I was smitten.  He was great with the kids.  A bit of a temperamental little guy at about 13 pounds.  Strong willed and assured.  As a puppy, he insisted on digging his way out of the back yard, so Ken hooked him up to a thick chain for awhile.  He didn't like that and finally learned to stop that.  After 13 years, he was not well and I noticed red lumps in the back of his eyes.  He was the first dog I ever had to put down and it was hard.  As a kid, we never had a dog long enough to worry about that.  RIP little Petey!
3 or 4 months later, we took the kids to the animal shelter in Florissant and got another puppy.  He was one of 4 or 5 puppies with his mother.  His mother was about 40 pounds and black and white---didn't look anything like this little guy.
He was just old enough to leave his mom.
Right from the start we could tell he was going to be a great dog.  He had such a sweet disposition.
On the way home, we asked the kids what we should name him.  They said he was the color of Pepsi, so that's what we named him.  Best Pepsi I ever had!

And he was a beautiful dog!!!!
This is about the time we really got interested in Cardinals Baseball.  Back in the days of Coleman and his 100 stolen bases, Ozzie and his back flips, Personable Willie McGee, Tommy Herr, Jose Oquendo who played every position, Cris Carpenter the super pitcher, Todd Worrell and his 105m/h pitches.  So when Vince Coleman came to Fischer's of Florissant to sign autographs, we had to go.
This was also the time the kids were into CYC sports.  For the most part, their teams were never that good, except for Angie's last year in high school when we put a team together with another parrish and they won city.  But here she is way back in 1988.
Tim's 4th grade class
We also became really good friends with the Fischers.  Did practically everything together.  The friendship fell apart when the kids reached middle school, never really knew why, but it wasn't amicable.  We did reunite with Don and Becky when we reached our 60s---thanks to Ken's brother giving us some Blues Hockey tickets and I couldn't get anyone to go so I  called Becky as a last resort.  Still don't know what happened all those years ago!
 Angie and her girlscout troop
Angie posing with BethAnn Fischers teddy bear.  She was recreating her photo with the snake---only this time with a stuffed animal.
Tim and his 4th grade teacher (Mrs. Harris, I think?)  Don't remember this wood working project or what happened to it.  Looks like a bird feeder!  Would like to have that now!
 Tim as alter boy again.
K-mart use to have a Lego contest for about 5 or 6 years.  Tim and Angie entered it every year.  This was Tim's Nassau creation.  I think they won the competition every year!  There were usually 3 or 4 winners for different amounts of money.  They had to use the money to buy more Legos---which was no problem for them!  They loved building things with Legos and to this day we still have the x-large tote full of Lego's.  Figured the Grandkids might want to play with them some day.  Hope Layla likes Legos!
Angie's creation this year.  Obviously they enjoyed their trip to Florida!
When Halloween rolled around, it was time to come up with costumes again.  This time that involved me painting their faces.
I think I did a pretty good job.

just a few misc. picture of Angie in 1988

A boyscout banquet.   from left to right---us, Fischers, Dursos, Winchells, Hesselbacks.
I use to go to Oregon by myself in Dec.  Would take presents to my family there and bring more back.  Plus help Mom and Dad decorate for Christmas.  But before I'd leave, I'd get presents for the kids so they could open one everyday that I was gone.  That way, they looked forward to me leaving!
And Ken would take them to breakfast with Santa up at Martyrs while I was gone.
